Prospective Students
We are an interdisciplinary centre that work with many disciplines across the University. We are based in the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences and Law.
Based in a newly refurbished building with excellent facilities for both students and visitors, we offer an unrivalled environment for postgraduate study.
Above all, the centre is a friendly, welcoming and enthusiastic home for those interested in any aspect of gender studies.
The Centre has an excellent track record for attracting funded students. For example, we currently host two ESRC-funded students, two students funded by University Research Scholarships and one funded by a Frank Stell Award.
In the past, we have attracted students with Commonwealth, British Council and Ford Foundation Scholarships. The Centre has ESRC recognition for PhD and for its Gender Studies (Research) MA programme.
Sexuality and Queer Theory
Our centre offers you the opportunity to examine the relationship between genders and sexualities, and explore the histories of sexualities, their medicalisations and political struggles.
Gender and Culture
Gender and Culture explores cultural forms, practices and theories as they relate to ideas around gender and sexuality, and investigates feminist debate in film, literature, history, music and the visual arts.
Gender and Management
An exciting area of scholarship, Gender and Management explores the gendered nature of management and professional development, and the way gender impacts on organisational life.
